New Year’s Eve Brunch
Start the day as you mean to go on with a special breakfast. Check out our Breakfast Pizza and Christmas Champagne Cocktails ideas. Or order in from your favourite restaurant or take-away.
Decorate Your House
Okay, so if you’re in lockdown it’s going to be difficult to get supplies now at such short notice. But you can repurpose your Christmas Decorations and get crafting.
You can make unique posters or hangings with old sheets, which you can use as photo backdrops. We may be unlikely to forget 2020 but why not record its departure anyway!
Get Dressed Up
You may not be able to leave the house, or attend any parties but you can still try to get in the celebratory mood by dressing up. The start of 2021 may not be much to celebrate either but let’s focus on the fact we made it through 2020 and many of us have learned new skills and abilities or found strengths we never knew we had.
Create A Photo Booth
Use an old bed-sheet and decorate it using paint, pens, glitter etc, or use some gold or silver wrapping paper as a backdrop and decorate around it. Get family or friends living with you to gather together some props and make signs and silly glasses, lips, beards with cardboard and straws
Play Games
Traditional games or online games. If you’re separated from family and friends and they have the same games as you, set up a Zoom Chat and play together online or host a Pub Quiz. Check out PlayPartyPlan’s ideas for games
If you want to go big (by this I mean spend a bit of money), check out The Digital Murder Mystery Company; there are a number of themes to choose from and digital invites and character plans are sent to your guests.
Make A Memory Box
Decorate an old box ready for all your new 2021 memories. Leave a slot so you can post memories, paper-cuttings etc to open and relive on 31st December 2021
Watch a New Year’s Movie
If you can’t face going out or partying line up a list of New Year’s Movies. These might be movies you always associate with New Year or which are set on or around New Years.
- When Harry Met Sally
- About Time
- New Year’s Eve
- New Year’s Day
- Are We There Yet
- The Poseidon Adventure/ Beyond The Poseidon Adventure
- An Affair To Remember/ Sleepless In Seattle
- Sunset Boulevard
- Assault on Precinct 13
- The Hudsucker Proxy
- Mermaids
- Peter’s Friends
- Yanks
- Angel Heart
- About A Boy
- Night Train To Paris
See In The New Year
Whether it’s watching the Time’s Square Ball Drop, which will be online and televised this year, or listening to the chimes of Big Ben in London, or finding a channel featuring countries around the world as they enter 2021. Even if it’s just sheer determination to see 2020 exit, just line up the drinks and nibbles and do it.
If you prefer to pull your duvet over your head, and give no celebration to the passing year at all – that is absolutely fine too!
