Beach Style Decorating.
Are you a Thalassophile? Don’t worry it’s not anything terrible; it’s the name for people who love the beach, ocean or sea.
With summer coming to an end there’s still a way to get your summer beach fix and that’s to incorporate a beach theme in to your home.
Capturing the feel of the beach.
Typically, when it comes to decorating, white walls are the starting point for most people. But a very pale, light blue can also work well. The priority is to make your room feel airy and light. If you have small windows in the room, fix the curtain pole higher above the top of the window frame to create the illusion of height. Hang floor-length, lightweight and light colored curtains, or bamboo blinds.
Wooden floors create the feeling of a boardwalk, boat deck or driftwood. But if you can’t stretch to wooden or laminate floors, consider buying a rattan or natural material rug.
Furnishings should be in light colors too, ideally white or sand color with natural wood benches, or side/ coffee tables. Another great idea is to have a feature furniture piece, or several, in a jaunty nautical blue, or even red. Carry this through to book shelves and window frames. Cushions and pillows with a nautical motif or theme can also help tie the look of a room together.
I love the cushion range from Mod Lifestyles which also includes coral colors. They are perfect for a beach-themed bedroom, stepping away from the traditional red, white and blue color scheme. These cushions are from the Oceana Range, which includes quilt and duvet sets too.
Whether it’s your smallest room (the bathroom), your kitchen, a porch or your bedroom. Mod lifestyles has an extensive range of soft furnishings, towels, aprons and bedding sets to complete your look.
Finally, no matter which room you’ve chosen to theme it’s not complete without some decorative mini lighthouses, or sailing boats. Amazon offers a good selection, including lighthouses which are actual lights or lamps. (link behind Amazon (for your SEO – do ‘open in new tab option’)

Other decorations to consider are shells, seahorses and starfish. Although, I would encourage you to source wooden versions of seahorses and starfish rather than actual freeze-dried ones, which encourages a trade that impacts on the health of our oceans – after all, you’re a Thalassophile, right?!
